Terms and Conditions

Welcome to Git Invoice (git-invoice.com). These terms and conditions ("Terms") outline the rules and regulations for the use of our website and services, operated by Appsplosion GbR ("we", "us", "our").

By accessing or using git-invoice.com, you accept these Terms in full. If you do not agree to all of these Terms, please do not use the service.

1. The Service

Git Invoice lets you generate client-ready PDF invoices from your own GitHub activity — pull requests, commits, and code reviews. The selection of work, hourly rate, hours, and all invoice details are under your full control.

We also offer a demo mode that runs entirely on sample data. The demo requires no login, and PDFs generated in demo mode are produced locally in your browser.

2. No Legal or Tax Advice

Invoices generated with Git Invoice are documents you create and are responsible for. We do not provide legal, accounting, or tax advice, and we make no representation that an invoice you generate satisfies the invoicing requirements of your jurisdiction. Please verify your invoices comply with local law (e.g. § 14 UStG within Germany) before sending them to clients.

3. GitHub Account and OAuth

Git Invoice authenticates through our GitHub App ("GitInvoice"). By signing in and installing the App, you grant us granular, provably read-only access limited to exactly what is needed to list your repositories and the work you shipped:

  • Access is read-only by construction: the App holds only contents: read and pull_requests: read, plus the mandatory metadata permission. GitHub enforces this — we could not write to your repositories even if we wanted to.
  • You choose which repositories (and which accounts) the App can see at install time, per repository. Anything you don't install it on stays invisible to us.
  • We read your installed repository list, pull requests, and commits to display them for selection.
  • We never read, store, or transmit the contents of any repository, public or private.
  • Your invoice drafts are stored only in your browser's local storage and never leave your device. PDFs are generated locally in your browser.
  • You can revoke access at any time by uninstalling the App (GitHub → Settings → Applications → Installed GitHub Apps) or adjusting its repository access — revocation takes effect immediately.

4. Intellectual Property / License

Unless otherwise stated, Git Invoice and/or its licensors own the intellectual property rights for all material on git-invoice.com. All intellectual property rights are reserved. You may access this from git-invoice.com for your own personal use, subject to restrictions set in these Terms.

You must not:

  • Republish material from git-invoice.com
  • Sell, rent, or sub-license material from git-invoice.com
  • Reproduce, duplicate, or copy material from git-invoice.com
  • Redistribute content from git-invoice.com

The invoices you generate are, and remain, entirely yours.

5. User Accounts

When you create an account through GitHub, you must provide accurate and complete information. You are responsible for safeguarding your login credentials via GitHub, and you agree not to disclose them to any third party.

We may terminate or suspend your access if you engage in fraudulent, abusive, or harmful behavior or violate these Terms.

6. Availability and Changes to the Service

The service is provided in a continuously developed state. We may add, change, or remove features at any time, and we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability.

7. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall Git Invoice, its operators, employees, or partners be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from:

  • Your use of or inability to access git-invoice.com;
  • Any unauthorized access to or use of our servers or personal information;
  • Any errors, bugs, or interruptions in the service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability where doing so would be unlawful — in particular, liability for intent, gross negligence, and under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz) remains unaffected.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, and you irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the German courts.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes are posted on this page; continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Privacy Policy

At Git Invoice (git-invoice.com), we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our services, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Information We Collect

  • GitHub App data: When you sign in with GitHub, we collect your GitHub username, email address, avatar, and a session token. Our GitHub App ("GitInvoice") holds only granular read-only permissions (contents, pull requests, metadata) and can only access the specific repositories you installed it on. We do not read or store the contents of any repository, public or private.
  • Local invoice drafts: Details you enter while building an invoice (client name, rate, hours, notes, logo) are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage on your own device. They are never transmitted to us.
  • Invoices: PDFs are generated locally in your browser. We never see, store, or process them.
  • Google Analytics data: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous usage data such as page views and session durations, to improve our services.
  • Contact information: If you contact us directly at appsplosion.help@gmail.com, we process the information you provide (e.g. your name, email address, and message content) to respond.

Legal Bases for Processing

We process your data on the following bases under Article 6 GDPR:

  • Contract performance (Art. 6 (1) b) — providing the service you signed in for;
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6 (1) f) — securing and improving the service, including anonymous analytics;
  • Consent (Art. 6 (1) a) — where required, e.g. for optional analytics cookies, which you may withdraw at any time.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the services offered on git-invoice.com;
  • Improve, personalize, and expand our services;
  • Analyze how you use our website and services (via Google Analytics);
  • Communicate with you for support, updates, and feedback.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only:

  • With your consent, or as necessary to provide the services;
  • To comply with legal obligations;
  • With the following processors: GitHub (authentication and repository data, per the GitHub Privacy Statement) and Google Analytics (anonymous usage analytics, per Google's Privacy Policy).

Data Retention

Session data is kept only as long as your session is active. Invoice drafts live in your browser until you clear them. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' default retention settings. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to handle your request.

Data Security

We take data security seriously and use industry-standard measures, such as SSL/TLS encryption, to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (Art. 15);
  • Have inaccurate data rectified (Art. 16);
  • Request the erasure of your data (Art. 17);
  • Restrict or object to processing (Art. 18, 21);
  • Data portability (Art. 20);
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, e.g. your local data protection authority.

Since your invoice data never leaves your browser, deleting your local storage (or using the demo mode) removes it completely. You can also opt out of Google Analytics tracking with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
